Safer Injecting

This one day workshop is an essential course for all those who need a good understanding of injecting drug use. It will enable participants to identify and reduce risks associated with injecting drug use, particularly those of blood-borne transmission.

Who Should Attend

All practitioners in health, social care, probation, police, drugs, alcohol and mental health settings, this workshop will be of interest to both newcomers and those more familiar with injecting trends.

Learning Objectives

  • To understand and communicate the medical risks of injecting
  • To examine the preparation and sharing of drugs for injection
  • To improve competence in communicating essential information to injectors
  • To improve knowledge about UK and international responses to injecting drug use
  • To improve knowledge about legal and professional responsibilities
  • To consider ethical and practice issues in delivering services to injecting drug users
  • Feasibility of supervised safer injecting centres
