Implementing an Effective DIP Throughcare / Aftercare Programme

This one-day module is designed for specialist drug and alcohol service workers working in DIP Throughcare / Aftercare teams. It aims to ensure that programmes are delivered in line with the national framework for continuity of care for drug-misusing offenders in the criminal justice system. The course will also be useful to generic workers who regularly meet drug and alcohol misusers in the course of their work, by enhancing their knowledge and understanding of criminal justice issues as they relate to drugs and alcohol. The courses centres on specific areas noted as problematic in all DIP's nationwide:

  • Ensuring continuous support of a drug misuser from the point of arrest to sentence and beyond
  • Ensuring and adopting a good case management approach
  • Ensuring quality and consistency of service and information re: 24/7 client single point of contact numbers
  • Virtual versus non Virtual teams
  • Ensuring and implementing sharing of information protocols
  • Consistent DIR / Activity Form completion
  • Creating competant Aftercare support
  • Ensuring CJIT workers provide, or broker the provision of, appropriate services in relation to:
    • housing
    • support with benefits
    • managing finances
    • employment
    • education and training opportunities
    • access to mental health services
    • rebuilding family relationships
